Athena - Gods of Olympus

Here's another Goddess from my Pantheon! This time is the time of Athena!

Athena is one of the most popular and loved deities on mount Olympus. She is the goddess of wisdom, civilization and justice.

She was born from Zeus' forehead: some myths say that Zeus had an unbearable headache, and that a fellow god (could have been either Hephaestus, Prometeus or some other deity) helped him giving birth to Athena opening his head with an axe; another version states that Athena was born from Zeus' relationship with Metis, who could bear children potentially more powerful than Zeus himself. In fact, as soon as Zeus knew the potential of his offspring, he tried to swallow Metis, but unfortunately for him Athena was already born.

I find the fact that Athena could be more powerful than Zeus pretty cool!

I had so fun drawing her soft and mildly chubby cheeks! X3

I was heavily inspired by her usual depiction in Ancient Greece's temples, showing her with a shield, a spear and a high helmet.

The owl is her animal symbol, and the symbol of Athens too! She always carries her flying pet around; he doesn't have a name. He's not that clever either, maybe you can tell by his expression. XD

Man, I love how he came out. That owl IS funny, to me. X)
